In 2019 we wrapped up a three-year project to rid our own and neighboring properties along the Necanicum River of invasive policeman’s helmet (Impatiens glandulifera). Dozens of volunteers worked side-by-side with our summer stewardship interns to pull, pile, and stomp on the plant so it couldn’t reproduce. In the future we’ll be keeping a close eye on the riverbank for new infestations and nipping them in the bud. The project was a partnership with Necanicum Watershed Council and Oregon Watershed Enhancement Board.
